हमें अच्छा नागरिक बनना चाहिए |We should be good citizens.

आपको यह काम नहीं करन चाहिए |You should not do this work.

क्या आपको यह काम करना चाहिए ? Should you do this work ?

मुझे क्या करना चाहिए ? What should I do ?

हमलोगों को शराब क्यों नहीं पीनी चाहिए ? Why should we not drink ?

Use of should 

निम्नलिखित अवस्थाओं में should का प्रयोग होता है जैसे -


(a) Shall के past equivalent form में should का प्रयोग होता है, जैसे -


I said that I should go home.

He asked me if I should do that.


(b) सलाह, निर्देश तथा विचार देने के लिए, जैसे -


You should consult a doctor at once. आपको अति सिघ्र एक डॉक्टर से सलाह लेनी चाहिए |

You should not go there. आपको वहाँ नहीं जाना चाहिए |

 You should sit properly in the class.

We should be honest in our dealing .

(c) नैतिक दायित्व तथा कर्तव्य का बोध कराने के लिए, जैसे -


We should love our country. हमें अपने देश से प्यार करना चाहिए |

We should not tell a lie. हमे झूठ नहीं बोलना चाहिए |

We should obey our elders. हमें अपने बड़ों के आज्ञा का पालन करना चाहिए |

We should be punctual. हमें वक़्त का पाबंद बनना चाहिए |


(d) संभावना की अभिव्यक्ति के लिए, जैसे -


He should be sleeping there. उसे सोते रहना चाहिए |

We should win the match. हमलोगों को मैच जितना चाहिए |

It should rain today. वर्षा होनी चाहिए |

(e) इस प्रकार के expressions में, जैसे -


What should I do? मुझे क्या करना चाहिए |

How should I know that? मुझे वह कैसे जानना चाहिए |

It is a pity that she should beg.

'Should' is used to show duty, obligation,probability,possibility,surprise,advice/suggestion,request,opinion and after 'that' clause.

Duty


You should do your job honestly. आपको इमानदारी से काम करना चाहिए |

If you are annoyed with her you should tell her. यदि तुम उससे तंग आ गए हो तो तुम्हें उससे बोलना चाहिए |

The judge should be addressed as 'Your Honour'. न्यायाधीश को 'योर आनर' कहकर बात करनी चाहिए |

You should apply in person. आप खुद पहुँचकर आवेदन करें |

You should have sought permission. आपको आज्ञा ले लेनी चाहिए थी |

You should have refunded her money. आपको उसका पैसा वापस लौटा देना चाहिए था |

You should be ashamed of yourself for telling such lies. इस तरह के झूठ बोलने के लिए तुम्हें शर्म आनी चाहिए |

Obligation


You should pay income tax if your income is more than the permissible. यदि आपकी आमदनी एक सीमा रेखा से अधिक हो तो आप आयकर अदा करें |

You should have a passport and a visa if you wish to go to abroad. यदि आप विदेश जाना चाहते हैं तो आपके पास पासपोर्ट एवं वीजा होना चाहिए |

You should have cleared your dues. आपको बकाया राशि का भुगतान कर देना चाहिए था |
